women's history month

March is Women's History Month

Women’s History Month is established to honor and celebrate women’s contributions to history, culture and society.  This month highlights the accomplishments and the countless ways women of every race, class and ethnic background, have strengthened and contributed to the tapestry of Waukegan and the nation, and acknowledges the leadership of women across all fields. The courage and sacrifice of women tells the story of history, with accounts of pioneers, trailblazers and groundbreaking women who enhance and enrich society, while continuing to nurture the family, fueling the growth and success of tomorrow’s leaders.

This month calls attention to the countless women who fought tirelessly and courageously for equality, justice, and opportunity in Waukegan and around the world, opening doors for subsequent generations of dreamers and doers. And note Waukegan has a long history of women in leadership, including Mayor, City Clerk, Council Members, City Department Directors, and leadership roles in the Police and Fire Departments.
