The City and Waukegan Park District are partnering to host the 23rd Annual Waukegan Polar Bear Plunge on Saturday, January 1st, 10 to 11am at the Waukegan Municipal Beach. All proceeds from the fundraiser benefit Special Recreation Services of Northern Lake County, helping individuals with disabilities participate in camps, athletics, health and fitness programs, and more.

Individuals may preregister as a pledger, who commits to raising at least $50, or a plunger who signs up for $20.  Preregistration for the plunge can take place online or at the Field House at 800 Baldwin until Wednesday, December 29th at 5pm.  Onsite day of event registration for $25 per plunger will run from 9 to 10:45am.  Pledgers will receive a commemorative hoodie and plungers will receive a commemorative t-shirt.

Mayor Ann Taylor said, “The Waukegan Polar Bear Plunge is a great way to ring in the new year and support special needs students and athletes.  We are thankful for the support of the participants, sponsors and event partners, the Waukegan Park District and Special Recreation Services of Northern Lake County.  This is a wonderful community building event at one of our most amazing locations, the Waukegan Beach.”
