The Waukegan Police Department employs one full-time civilian as a crime analyst. The crime analyst tracks all crimes and reports the statistics to both the Illinois State Police and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). When the crime analyst finds patterns of crime they are reported to the Patrol Division, Investigations and the Chief's Office. Patterns of crime can be related to the area or neighborhoods involved, the type of crime being committed, or suspect descriptions.
