About the City Clerk

Maria Bedolla LaCour has served as the City Clerk of Waukegan since being appointed in 2014. She was born in Mexico and lived there until her father brought her family to the United States when she was six years old. Today, City Clerk LaCour lives in Waukegan, where she has enjoyed serving the diverse residents of the City. She has been working for the City of Waukegan for over 25 years. Before becoming the City Clerk, she served as the Deputy Clerk for 15 years.

City Clerk LaCour is also a Youth Mentor through the Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Chicago where she volunteers to be a source of support and a 
positive role model for Waukegan youth.  She serves on the Board of Directors of the YWCA, as a member of the Latino Coalition of Lake County, the Coalition to Reduce Recidivism, and the Anti Bullying Committee for the Waukegan School District.

City Clerk LaCour graduated from Elgin High School and received additional education at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and the University of Wisconsin-Parkside where she completed leadership programs for municipal officials. Today, she is proud to be a certified and registered municipal clerk. She is currently pursuing her Master City Clerk certification.

City Clerk LaCour is married to Mark and has two children, Bianca and Alec. During her free time, she enjoys walking, going to the gym, dancing, and spending time with her family.  She loves her adopted hometown of Waukegan and is excited to be part of the progress the City is making.
