About the Mayor

Wayne Motley has proudly served as the Mayor of Waukegan since 2013. He has called the City of Progress home since 1957 and has committed himself to over 39 years of public service to make Waukegan a better place to live, work, and play.

Prior to becoming Mayor, he served in the Waukegan Police Department for 26 years, where he was the SWAT 
Commander, Major Crime Scene Unit Commander, Major Accident Scene Reconstruction Unit Commander, and Traffic Division Commander. He served in every division of the Waukegan Police Department and was selected as the Police Officer of the Year. He also served as the City Clerk for 12 years and is proud to be Waukegan's first state certified and registered municipal clerk. In 2008, he was named the Municipal Clerk of the Year for the the State of Illinois. Additionally, Mayor Motley served on the Waukegan Park District's Board of Commissioners for 18 years, where he was President for 4 years, and the Waukegan Housing Authority for 9 years, where he served as the Board of Directors Chairman.

Mayor Motley is a graduate of Waukegan Township High School and the Chicago Police Academy. He has received additional education from the University of Illinois and the Northwestern University Traffic Institute.Today, he is married to Carol Motley and has 4 children, 3 stepchildren, and 14 grandchildren. When he has free time, Mayor Motley enjoys playing golf, adding to his clock collection, and riding his Harley Davidson.
